Hablemos de inteligencia artificial: ¿es ética?

La ética de la inteligencia artificial es un tema de moda debido al crecimiento de la IA. Hoy en día, este asunto está omnipresente en nuestras vidas y nos hace plantearnos cuestiones como ¿es segura la inteligencia artificial?

Qué debe tener en cuenta la moralidad

Ya que la IA puede tomar decisiones autónomas, el impacto en la sociedad es significativo y muchas personas están en contra de la inteligencia artificial.

Para asegurarnos de una práctica segura, la IA debe tener en cuenta:

– La protección de datos: garantizar la privacidad de los usuarios jugará a favor de la IA a medida que pasen los años. Las empresas tienen mucha responsabilidad con respecto a este tema.

– Responsabilidad y seguridad: ya que todos somos responsables de nuestras acciones, la IA no puede ser menos. La IA puede ser un arma muy potente así que debe asegurar su fortaleza ante ataques y manipulaciones.

– La transparencia: para las personas es importante entender qué se está haciendo y como para generar confianza.

– Discriminación: la IA debe procurar ser justa y accesible para todo el mundo para aplicar una ética adecuada.

– Impacto social: sobre todo en el panorama laboral puesto que muchos puestos de trabajo se están reinventando con el avance de la IA.

Debates sobre la inteligencia artificial

Existen algunos debates célebres sobre la ética y moralidad de la inteligencia artificial que ha dado mucho que hablar. Muchos científicos han cuestionado los riesgos del uso de la IA y la aceleración de su desarrollo, por ello han abogado por una regulación a nivel mundial, como Stephen Hawking o Elon Musk. Nos llama la atención, no obstante, de que científicos de este nivel hayan contribuido a la evolución de este tipo de tecnología.

Otro debate a la orden del día es el uso de algoritmos y la discriminación que pueden llegar a proporcionar a la hora de crear sesgos. Pongamos por ejemplo las decisiones de los bancos a la hora de conceder préstamos.

Sin embargo, creemos que el debate que más preocupa hoy en día es el uso de la IA en el panorama laboral. La automatización del empleo preocupa en un mundo cada vez más poblado pero con una escasez de empleo latente. Debemos centrarnos en que la IA también crea oportunidades.

Pensemos ahora en la capacidad de las máquinas para comportarse como los seres humanos. Muchos científicos apuestan por la emulación de la inteligencia humana mientras que otros defienden el desarrollo de la IA con potenciales diferentes.

¿Has visto alguna vez un vehículo que se conduzca solo? Genera un gran debate, por ejemplo, ¿qué hace el vehículo cuando hay que tomar decisiones importantes? Imagina una situación de accidente en la que el vehículo autónomo tuviera que decidir si proteger al pasajero o a una persona externa, como un peatón.

La ciencia ficción en la IA

Muchas de las preocupaciones de la sociedad con respecto a la IA vienen motivadas por la ciencia ficción y el cine. La ciencia ficción trata la ética de la IA y su impacto en la sociedad de una manera entretenida y única pero no debemos olvidar que es ciencia ficción y presentan distopías. Algunas películas célebres que tratan este asunto son A. I. Inteligencia artificial de Steven Spielberg, 2001: Una odisea del espacio de Stanley Kubrick, Blade Runner de Ridley Scott, y sus versiones posteriores, y Ex Machina de Alex Garland.

Las plataformas digitales también han grabado series que tratan la IA como Black Mirror o Westworld.

Ethical Concerns of Artificial Intelligence

Debates About Artificial Intelligence

There are some famous debates about the ethics and morality of artificial intelligence that have caused a lot of discussion. Many scientists, such as Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk, have questioned the risks of the use of AI and the acceleration of its development, and called for a global agreement on the ethics of artificial intelligence. It is striking, however, that scientists of this level have contributed to the development of this type of technology.

Another debate nowadays is the use of algorithms and the discrimination they can provide when it comes to creating biases. Take, for example, banks’ lending decisions.

However, we believe that the debate of most concern today is the use of AI in the employment landscape. Job automation is a concern in an increasingly crowded world with a latent job shortage. We need to focus on the fact that AI also creates opportunities.

Think about the ability of machines to behave like humans. Many scientists argue for the emulation of human intelligence while others advocate the development of AI with different potentials.

Have you ever seen a self-driving car? It generates a lot of debate, for example, what does the vehicle do when important decisions have to be made? Imagine an accident situation where the autonomous vehicle had to decide whether to protect the passenger or an external person, such as a pedestrian.

Science Fiction and AI

Many of society’s concerns about AI are motivated by science fiction and the film industry. Science fiction deals with the ethics of AI and its impact on society in an entertaining and unique way but we must not forget that it is science fiction and presents dystopias. Some famous films that deal with this issue are Steven Spielberg’s ‘A.I. Artificial Intelligence’, Stanley Kubrick’s ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’, Ridley Scott’s ‘Blade Runner’ and its later versions and Alex Garland’s ‘Ex Machina’.

Digital platforms have also recorded series dealing with AI such as ‘Black Mirror’ or ‘Westworld’.
